Souls of Christmas Past

Written:  December 4, 2014

Remember last year when we decorated Grandma's Christmas tree, as Dad sat and watched?

Now you are gone, Grandma is gone, Dad is gone, and I may not be gone physically, but my soul is fading fast.

Belated, Merry Whatever!

First of all, I would like to apologize profusely for disappearing from the blogsphere for awhile, with no explanation.  My computer had needed to be repaired for quite some time, and it went into the shop just a few days before Christmas.  With that said, how was your Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/whatever holiday you may  celebrate this time of year?  I hope you all had a very merry...whatever!  Hahaha. I would like to share with you a few of my favorite Christmas presents!

1.  Q & A a Day: 5-Year Journal

I think many of my blogging friends would thoroughly enjoy this, considering it has to do with writing.  It asks you a different question every day for a year.  Then, once you finish off that year, you start answering the same questions you did last year.  That way you can really see how much you have changed in five years!

2.  Polly Pocket Rainy Day Dolls

What can I say?  I'm a kid at heart. ;)  Do not be afraid to act like a kid every once in awhile!  It is a major stress reliever!

3.  Snuggie (Camouflage of course!)  As much as I used to make fun of these things, they are actually very comfy and warm.  As much as I hate to admit it, the sleeves are useful too, especially when reading. :)

4.  Pitch Perfect  GREAT MOVIE!  And if you're a fan of either Bridesmaids or Glee, I definitely recommend it!

5.  Official Betsey Johnson Purse  When I visited Chicago, I fell in love with the Bestsey Johnson store they had there.  The only problem?  Everything there was too expensive for a poor, college kids like me.  Luckily, Betsey Johnson sells some items that are more affordable at places like JCP.  She has a line called "Betseyville".  I am already in love with this purse!

So, did you all get anything new and exciting this year?  Did you do anything special with your family or friends?  I hope all of you had someone to spend the holidays with!  I guess next I will be saying, "Happy New Year!"

Twas the End of the World Before Christmas

In my humble opinion, the world is NOT going to end on December 21, 2012.  I mean, how cruel would that be?  It is seventeen days until Christmas, and thirteen days until the world is supposedly going to end!!!  I will be very disappointed if the world ends four LOUSY, MEASLY, days before Christmas.  Don't get me wrong; I respect the opinions of anyone who does believe the world ends on December 21, 2012.  I just personally do not buy into the whole world ending fiasco, but I am no expert on it.  I genuinely hope the world does NOT end though.  There are so many things I want to do in life, and I have not had enough time in my short twenty years to do them all!  Besides, I've wasted a lot of money on Christmas gifts for the world to end before I get to give my loved ones any of their presents!  So, what do you all think?  Will the world end in 2012?

I Dream of Elfing

When I was a little girl, all I really wished for was to be one of Santa's elves.

I have never completely given up that wish.

Back then, I thought Santa Claus was the bomb diggity...and I still do!

Santa is like a cherry chubbin', jelly bowlin', chimney slidin', gift givin' bro!

How could anyone NOT want to be a part of that?

All I wanted was to help spread the Christmas cheer!

I guess not much has changed.  :)

Happy December!!!

Happy December, everyone - though it does not feel much like winter here in Southern Illinois!  The weather fluctuates day to day, and you never know whether the sun will be shining when you wake up, or whether the first winter blizzard will suddenly hit.  Anyway, since Christmas is quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to start out the month with a list of Christmas books you should read!

1.
The Christmas Doll by Elvira Woodruff

2.  Olive, the Other Reindeer by Vivian Walsh, illustrated by J. Otto Siebold

3.  The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore, illustrated by Mary Engelbreit

4.  Treasury of Christmas Tales by Susan Spellman

5.  A Very Lizzie Christmas by Lisa Papademitriou

6.  A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

7.  The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree by Amy Rosenberg

8.  The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen

9.  The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg

10.  A Charlie Brown Christmas by Charles M. Shulz

There you have it folks!  I believe that whether you are young or old, big or small, you will fall in love with more than one of the books on my list; you just have to take the time to read them!  Look forward to more Christmas posts to come...heck!  "This is the most wonderful time of the year!"  Now go snuggle with a blanket, a book, and read, read, READ!!!!!

First Snows & First Kisses.

Her soul is that of a child at Christmastime
She looks up, oh how the stars shine!

Snow falls, and it tickles her nose
As her father's inside taking a doze

The boy she likes is playing next door
His eyes light up in the snowy galore

She looks at him, as he looks at her
She can hear the beat of her heart purr

She's only fifteen, but it feels so right!
A snowball fight breaks out in the twilight

Everyone goes home; it is just him and her
Brrr she shivers, she is obviously cold
He gives her his jacket and says, "This will keep you warm."

Her smile glistens as the stars glow
She looks up and sees gently falling snow

When she looks down, what a surprise
The night ends with her first kiss; it leaves a sparkle in her eyes

Merry Christmas 2010!!! :D

Can you believe it's already Christmas Eve 2010?
This Christmas is a bittersweet one for me.  It is our family's first Christmas without my Papaw, but it is also my first Christmas with Ryan.  Tonight, I will be celebrating Christmas with my family and Ryan (thankfully the snow didn't get too bad!) and tomorrow I will be doing the same, hopefully.  I hope you all have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!  Look forward to an exciting, informative post about this past year very soon (since the new year is coming up), and get ready for a lot of great writing in 2011!

I hope all of you have a good holiday (whatever you may be celebrating!)  Just remember, Jesus is the reason for the season! Hallelujah, Jesus Christ was born!

The Little Joys of Christmastime

All the world is a coffee shop,
with extra whipped cream on top.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Outside it's cold, but inside it's hot.
A plate of cookies sits by the cot.
Hot chocolate fills the kettle and the pot.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Look at the snowmen as the children play.
They are practically alive on this crisp winter day.
Bring on the bells, the gifts, and the sleigh!
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Carolers pass out candy canes.
Santa rings a bell at the Christmas parade.
Family and friends celebrate the day.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!! :)

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!!!!!  I know it is a little late, but I hope you all had a marvelous day!  :)  Whether you think so or not, we all have a great deal to be thankful for.  All of us are blessed in different ways.  If nothing else, be thankful of this life, and of how wonderful God is.

What have you done to celebrate today?  I ate lunch with some of my family, and then went to visit a couple of other family members.  It is exciting for me that the countdown to Christmas has started because I LOVE Christmas!!!!!  Now, I am just relaxing, and watching "Charlie Brown Thanksgiving."  You have to love those classics!

Anyway, I hope all of you have a good day tomorrow - whether you are braving Black Friday shopping, or just sleeping in!  Have some fun and stay safe!

Bear Hugs Make Everything Better

I found the above PostSecret on Photobucket, and it kind of brought me back to my childhood.  I can see some of you nodding your heads in agreement.  Don't lie!  I know you are!  ;)  Well, I have no shame, I'll admit it.  When I was little, I totally bought into the whole stuffed animals coming to life at night thing.  Didn't we all at one point or another?  I was a stuffed animal Fuhhh-reak!  Practically all of my stuffed animals had three names.  They all had stories.  They all had pasts, presents, and futures.

My favorite stuffed animal in particular growing up was Noel Chris Wilson - Noel for short.  :)  I cannot deny that I still sleep with him most of the time, even though he is a bear that has obviously seen many days.  I think I got him when I was in the fourth grade, around Christmastime.  Now that I look back on finding Noel, I am not sure what stood out to me about him.  However to this day, if there were a fire, I would save Noel over my iPod or phone ANY day.

He has been through so many important moments with me.  I cannot tell you how many tears his poor fur has absorbed throughout the years.  He carries so many sentimental memories, and I swear on my life that I will probably bring him with me when I go off and get married.  I think it is true at any age:  sometimes all we need is a great big bear hug!

Merry Christmas!!!

Well, well, well! It's Christmas Eve already. Time flies so fast! First, I want to let you all know that it's possible that I won't post as much over the holidays, but hey, ya never know! I know that I already missed this week's Ten Things Tuesday, so sorry about that.

I will be celebrating Christmas Eve tonight with my family, and tomorrow for Christmas I will be celebrating with my family too! I think I have finally finished the last of my Christmas shopping, and that is always a good thing! I hope all of you have a good holiday (whatever you may be celebrating!) Just remember, Jesus is the reason for the season! Hallelujah,
Jesus Christ was born!

I am a Gingerbread Man!

My body is a shade of tan.
I live in a big metal pan.
Can you guess what I am?
Yes, I am a gingerbread man!
I try to run away,
but then you bite off my leg!
What am I to do?
You bit off my other leg too!
Yes I am a gingerbread man.
My fate has already been set.
Why must I pay this debt?
I guess it's just what I get,
for being a gingerbread man.

The Problem With Labels.

I found the picture above, and it really struck me as interesting. If you haven't already, read it carefully. A GENUINELY FAKE watch?! Well, I'll put that one on my Christmas list for sure!
Chances are, if that sign did not say that the watches were actually fake, people who were not that educated about watches might buy a watch, thinking that it is genuine. People might be confused when they first see this sign, but hopefully they will figure out what it means after a minute or two. THE WATCHES ARE FAKE! *Gasp!!!!!* It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
Think about it. What if everyone had a sign hanging on their chest that revealed a secret about them? Sure, your mama might have told you not to judge a book by it's cover, but honestly, haven't we all at some point?
Like the Bible in Matthew 7:3 says, "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" That is a really good question. We get upset at people for judging as, but we continue to judge other people. Of course, it's natural. We are only human, though we should always try to show less judgment for those around us. That doesn't mean we should totally ignore people's flaws, but we should forgive them.
Yes, a good number of cheaters will still cheat, liars will still lie, and abusers will still abuse. However, the ones who actually do change will most likely still be cast out of society. They will still have that label for doing whatever it is that they did in the past. It is true; we deserve to know what they did for our own safety. The one thing that we need to remember though, is that we are all human. We all have made mistakes. We all have wronged someone. We all have had to put up with the consequences of our actions in one way or another, and we ALL have the ability to change. So despite our differences, we all have that one little thing in common, if nothing else.
We aren't really all that different than the watches really. Humans are constantly trying to overcome the negative labels that society has cast upon us. Maybe it is time to stop labeling so much, and start listening.

The Magical Spirit of Christmas.

Christmas is a time of giving to others. It is a time for family, friends, and other loved ones. It is a time to thank God. Christmas means many things to many different people.

I realize that not everyone out there celebrates Christmas, but I do not know what I would do without it. Christmas has always been such a special time for me, and it isn't just about the presents. What I love about Christmas is the spirit...it just seems magical. Simply opening a door for someone might make their day. You never know what will make someones day. I have learned this through the many little moments that have made a number of my days special.

It is not that we never do anything nice for anyone else other times. It's just that in the Christmas season it is more recognizable, more tangible...

When many people think back on their Christmas memories, they remember the warmth surrounding them despite the freezing weather. This is what I wish everyone would be able to feel all year around...

To all who read this, I would like to wish you and yours a great Christmas and happy holidays. Most importantly, try to keep your focus on what is really important.
