Belated, Merry Whatever!

First of all, I would like to apologize profusely for disappearing from the blogsphere for awhile, with no explanation.  My computer had needed to be repaired for quite some time, and it went into the shop just a few days before Christmas.  With that said, how was your Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/whatever holiday you may  celebrate this time of year?  I hope you all had a very merry...whatever!  Hahaha. I would like to share with you a few of my favorite Christmas presents!

1.  Q & A a Day: 5-Year Journal

I think many of my blogging friends would thoroughly enjoy this, considering it has to do with writing.  It asks you a different question every day for a year.  Then, once you finish off that year, you start answering the same questions you did last year.  That way you can really see how much you have changed in five years!

2.  Polly Pocket Rainy Day Dolls

What can I say?  I'm a kid at heart. ;)  Do not be afraid to act like a kid every once in awhile!  It is a major stress reliever!

3.  Snuggie (Camouflage of course!)  As much as I used to make fun of these things, they are actually very comfy and warm.  As much as I hate to admit it, the sleeves are useful too, especially when reading. :)

4.  Pitch Perfect  GREAT MOVIE!  And if you're a fan of either Bridesmaids or Glee, I definitely recommend it!

5.  Official Betsey Johnson Purse  When I visited Chicago, I fell in love with the Bestsey Johnson store they had there.  The only problem?  Everything there was too expensive for a poor, college kids like me.  Luckily, Betsey Johnson sells some items that are more affordable at places like JCP.  She has a line called "Betseyville".  I am already in love with this purse!

So, did you all get anything new and exciting this year?  Did you do anything special with your family or friends?  I hope all of you had someone to spend the holidays with!  I guess next I will be saying, "Happy New Year!"

Twas the End of the World Before Christmas

In my humble opinion, the world is NOT going to end on December 21, 2012.  I mean, how cruel would that be?  It is seventeen days until Christmas, and thirteen days until the world is supposedly going to end!!!  I will be very disappointed if the world ends four LOUSY, MEASLY, days before Christmas.  Don't get me wrong; I respect the opinions of anyone who does believe the world ends on December 21, 2012.  I just personally do not buy into the whole world ending fiasco, but I am no expert on it.  I genuinely hope the world does NOT end though.  There are so many things I want to do in life, and I have not had enough time in my short twenty years to do them all!  Besides, I've wasted a lot of money on Christmas gifts for the world to end before I get to give my loved ones any of their presents!  So, what do you all think?  Will the world end in 2012?

I Dream of Elfing

When I was a little girl, all I really wished for was to be one of Santa's elves.

I have never completely given up that wish.

Back then, I thought Santa Claus was the bomb diggity...and I still do!

Santa is like a cherry chubbin', jelly bowlin', chimney slidin', gift givin' bro!

How could anyone NOT want to be a part of that?

All I wanted was to help spread the Christmas cheer!

I guess not much has changed.  :)

Happy December!!!

Happy December, everyone - though it does not feel much like winter here in Southern Illinois!  The weather fluctuates day to day, and you never know whether the sun will be shining when you wake up, or whether the first winter blizzard will suddenly hit.  Anyway, since Christmas is quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to start out the month with a list of Christmas books you should read!

1.
The Christmas Doll by Elvira Woodruff

2.  Olive, the Other Reindeer by Vivian Walsh, illustrated by J. Otto Siebold

3.  The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore, illustrated by Mary Engelbreit

4.  Treasury of Christmas Tales by Susan Spellman

5.  A Very Lizzie Christmas by Lisa Papademitriou

6.  A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

7.  The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree by Amy Rosenberg

8.  The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen

9.  The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg

10.  A Charlie Brown Christmas by Charles M. Shulz

There you have it folks!  I believe that whether you are young or old, big or small, you will fall in love with more than one of the books on my list; you just have to take the time to read them!  Look forward to more Christmas posts to come...heck!  "This is the most wonderful time of the year!"  Now go snuggle with a blanket, a book, and read, read, READ!!!!!

April Fool

Originally written 2/29/2012 with the exception of edits.

Why are you considered an angel
When you are just an April Fool?

Why am I consistently outcast,
And why do people think that you are actually cool?

I can see right through you
You self-fulfilling curse

To me you are the worst kind of expletive
Too bad to write in this verse

What is it that people see
Behind your disgusting face?

Maybe it is just me,
But I consider you a total disgrace

If you are considered a lady
Then I am ashamed to be what you are

I try so hard to be classy
A woman that people will respect

But apparently they like what you have to offer
Which means they like nothing, I guess

Well, if that's what they like
I suppose I have nothing to give

I am way more complex than that
I am not an easy enough catch for them

Well, let me tell you, angel
You may think you have it all now

But when I am alone at night
I may be lonely, but I am proud

And you are just a fallen angel
Ugly, broken, alone

Angel of the Winter

Originally written:  February 29, 2012 (with the exception of edits).

Look beneath the surface
You might like what you see
If you look beneath the surface
Maybe you'll see me

Look beneath the surface
Maybe you'll see her
If you look beneath the surface
You'll see her sickness has no cure

I laugh, ask myself, "Who am I kidding?"
When all you seem to see
Is an Angel of the Winter
Yet you fail to see me

I beg you to look beneath the surface
This is my only plea
If you look beneath the surface
Maybe you will see; there are more than a million "hers", and only one little "me".

Little Things

I am not sure who took this photo, or who edited it.  The only thing I know is that I found it on Tumblr, and it seemed to fit my feelings about life so well.  I don't need a big house.  I don't need millions of dollars to be happy.  I need love to be happy - not just the love of a person, but the things I love in life, surrounding me.  I need to watch funny videos on Youtube, to feed ducks in the park, to finish a book, to look through old photo albums, to eat pizza and not care how many calories I am ingesting into my body.  I would rather be starving to death doing something I love, than bored to death doing something I hate.

Wise as a French Fry

Is it not a lovely thought,
To think french fries will always stay the same
No matter what?

Is it not great to believe,
That there will always be leaves in the autumn
That fall from the trees?

It is so nice to know,
Rain is rain, is rain, is rain
And snow is snow, is snow, is snow.

A clown is meant to be funny
A teacher is meant to be smart
A model is meant to be pretty

But I will always just be
Myself,

No matter what
I stay the same

To Fake a Smile or to Cry Awhile?

Everyone always says that it is up to you to make yourself happy.  While I believe this to some extent, I am not sure that I totally buy into it.  After the death of a loved one, are you supposed to be a-okay the next day?  When a natural disaster strikes in your community, are you supposed to immediately get over it?

No, I don't think you should be bitter your whole life over something that happened when you were two, but there are just some things that are really difficult to get over.  Why should I have to be happy all the time, and how can I make myself happy if I am constantly being put down?  Sometimes, life just sucks.  Sure, I can fake a smile with the best of them, but why should I always have to?

To be honest, I am not just talking about deaths and natural disasters.  I am talking about friend problems, heartbreak, rejection, feeling alone.  I am talking about the little things.  Sometimes, I just want to be in a bad mood.  If crying makes me feel better in the long run, then why not?  As long as you do not become a generally negative, pessimistic, bitter, cynical person, I think occasional bad moods are healthy to an extent.  If you never feel depressed, angry, lonely, devastated...then how will you ever truly appreciate when something good comes along?

Life Lesson #14: Be the Pizza!!!

Life Lesson #14:  "Stop being useless, and start being pizza."

I honestly wish I could just tell some people this.  It is one of the best pieces of advice I can offer.  The world would be much more productive, efficient, and tasty, if this little quote was true...

I know this is not serious advice.  You should not start stuffing cheese in your ears and stacking pepperoni on your head, but you should stop being useless.  (If you are useless, you know who you are!)

Humanity

"Now I don't believe men are born to be killers
I don't believe that this world can't be saved
How did you get here and when did it start
An innocent child with a thorn in his heart"

For some reason, this song popped into my head tonight:  "World So Cold" by 12 Stones.

I'm Such a Hipster...I was Indie Pendent Before it was Cool.

Hey everyone!!!  Happy 4th of July!!!  I hope you all have something fun planned today with your family or friends.  What am I doing, you ask?  Well, I am going to see TWO movies with my boyfriend.  You heard me, we are going to the theatre TWICE today.  The first movie we are going to see is "Brave".  I am not usually one to go see all of the animated movies; cartoon movies have never been a big thing for me...ever.  This one in particular however, I felt like I had to see.  The music, even in the commercials was beautiful.  Besides, this film seems to radiate girl power!  I guess Ryan and I will just have to see. :)

The second movie we will be seeing today is "Abraham Lincoln:  Vampire Hunter."  My own mother was shocked that I wanted to see this movie.  I cannot promise that I will like it, but I am hoping for the best.  I'm going to give it my best shot!

Other than that, we may hit up the local carnival for a little while.  What will you be doing to celebrate today?

Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time, she had friends.

Once upon a time, she was rarely at home.

Once upon a time, she was cream of the crop.

Once upon a time, she was queen.

Once upon a time, she was spirited.

Once upon a time, she was never left out.

Once upon a time, she wrote of how happy she was.

Once upon a time, she really was.

But that was Once Upon a Time.

A Reality Show Junkie's Opinion on "Teen Mom"

Original "Teen Mom" cast
Want to know one thing you probably don't know about me?  I am a self proclaimed reality show junkie.  From "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" to "Big Brother", I love them all.  (Okay, I'm lying.  I do not watch them all, but you're picking up what I'm throwing down, right?  Good!)  One of my favorite reality shows, however, would have to be "Teen Mom".  By this I am including both "Teen Mom" and "Teen Mom 2".

My personal opinion is that this show and the girls involved face a lot of undeserved criticism.  Many people believe that this show ENCOURAGES teenage girls to get pregnant, which I think is absolutely false.  Most of the people who make this claim have probably not watched one episode of the show.  While I would not recommend it for little girls, I definitely would recommend it for appropriate aged teenage girls.

Together, "Teen Mom" and "Teen Mom 2" follow a total of eight girls throughout their everyday lives as teen moms.  It shows their struggles and strives, and the discrimination they face, but the show also celebrates their victories.  It shows the different outcomes of being a teenage mom - from adoption, to a ton of family support, to very little family support.  I think it is both an educational/informative show, and a persuasive show.  It educates girls, but it also persuades them to be safe and smart while making decisions that could potentially affect the outcomes of there futures.

What do you think about "Teen Mom"?

Truth Is...

Ain't that the truth.  Some of you may have been reading my blog for a few weeks, months.  A select few of you may even have been reading it for years.  So, I bid you the question:  Do you feel that you know me because you have read a few things about me, shared a few pictures with you?

The answer is no.  You do not know me (unless you have met me in real life of course).  Don't get me wrong - there are many of you I would LOVE to meet, LOVE to be friends with.  I sincerely like some of the people whose blogs I have read, and people who have commented on my blog throughout the years.  With that said, it does not mean I know you.

I know the people who I have shared secrets with, ridden in the passenger seat by, went to see a movie with.  I know the people who have sucked up to me, put me down, and made me feel inferior.  I know the people who I have been in pictures with, the people who have given me hugs, the people who have annoyed the crap out of me.  I do not, however, know you.  It may be a sad fact, but it's true.

I can think I know you, and you can think you know me, but that fact of the matter is we really do not know each other.  For all you know, I could be a 56 year old man from Antarctica in a civil union with a man who hates beavers.  Granted, I am not.  I do not even know if Antarctica allows civil unions, but the thing is you only know little snippets about me that I have told you.  You know nothing more, nothing less.  Think about this as your are enjoying the internet and social networking.  Though it is fun and a way to make friends, you need to see people, places, things, and ideas for what they really are.

Seems Like Only Yesterday

"For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think we were wise
 And we'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe
We'd ever die for these sins
 We were merely freshman"

Queen of the Weird

Queen of the World
Or Queen of the Weird?

Beard with a lady
Or lady with a beard?

Questions no answers
Answers make no sense

A penny for your thoughts
No need to mince

Words of a feather
Pods of a pea

They go together
Like the bee's knees

You are funny
And so are your bones

You make me laugh
You make me moan

Silly person
Let's be alive

Cheers to us!
Low and high five!

Life Lesson #13: Don't Just Trust a Used to be Friend

Ever feel this way?  Yeah, me too.  It seems to be something that I feel quite often.  Maybe it's because I form attachments to people to easily, or maybe it's just that I'm not like all of  them.  Either way, it hurts.  It hurts when I see someone I "used to know."  It hurts when the someone I "used to know" acts like the same old friend.  This happens often.  Enjoy it, but do not trust this person again at the first sign of friendship.  I know this from experience.  Take this lesson from someone who has been there.

Life Lesson #13
Don't trust someone just because he or she used to be a friend.  This person stopped being your friend for a reason.  You can't give in at the first sign of friendship, as this may be a false alarm.  Take time to let this old friend regain trust.  Enjoy this individual's presence, but do not live for this person.  You know who I'm talking about.

Me, Myself, and I.

Something I wrote June 16, 2009.  I was 16 years old at the time:

I am definitely not a genius. I don't even know that you would call me particularly smart. However, I do know some things.

I have what I like to call an "old soul." I may not be the most book smart person in the world, but I have some personal wisdom that many others my age do not have.

I haven't been through as much as some, but I have been through more than others. I value the experiences I have had greatly, and the wisdom that I have acquired from them.

Sometimes I act like the most immature person in the world, but other times I have the maturity of a grandmother. That is one of the complex attributes that makes me who I am.

I blossom when I get the chance to be creative. I strive to be original, like an artist in the midst of a million brain surgeons. We all have our place in the world, but I know one of my purposes is to be a creator.

I am confident and outgoing, or shy and insecure. Some days I am not quite sure who I am. But no matter what day of the week it is, or how I am feeling, or what I am wearing, I always know one thing. I am always me, myself, and I. I cannot change that no matter how hard I try, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Starting New...Kind Of?

I made a promise to myself last night.  I promised myself that I would start blogging again.  It is something I feel that I need to do - for you and me both.  I want to thank my followers who have stayed with me during this...blogcation?  Whatever you want to call it, I took a break, but I am back and raring to go!  Please followers, help keep me on track, and keep me writing.  It's something my soul NEEDS to do!  :)  Even if I just post a picture sometimes, I feel that I MUST post SOMETHING.

Well, I think I'm already making a pretty good start. ;)
